Location

The village is located in the Troyan Balkans - 20 km from Troyan and 15 from Apriltsi and is the village with the widest horizon in Bulgaria, and the altitude is 499 m.
Troyan is 160 km. northeast of Sofia, located on the picturesque banks of the Beli Osam River, in the northern foothills of the Troyan-Kalofer section of the Balkan Mountains. The city is close to the Hemus highway, and through the Troyan Pass it is connected to Southern Bulgaria. The climate is temperate-continental with a pronounced mountain influence. Precipitation is above average, and snow cover is about 50 days a year.

The area of the village has been inhabited since ancient times - evidence is the hundreds of mounds in the area. The church "St. Nicholas Letni" in Gumushtnik is part of a Bulgarian Renaissance architectural complex with historical and artistic value. The iconostasis is a unique work of woodcarving.
Also of interest is the monastery school, founded in 1829, later converted into a secular school. Today, on the first floor of the school, there is a collection that tells the history of the village.
In the village, in the churchyard, there is also a unique monument to the victims of the Titanic, among whom are 8 residents of the village.

Nature:
In the region of Troyan and Apriltsi are the nature reserves Kozya Stena, Steneto and Northern Dzhendem - part of the Central Balkan National Park, known for its unique flora and fauna. The nature is wild and in places difficult to access. In the Northern Dzhendem reserve there are about 30 waterfalls with a height of over 20 meters.
Here is also the third largest monastery in Bulgaria - "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" - Troyan Monastery. Next to it is the National Exhibition of Arts and Crafts - the village of Oreshak.
In the neighborhood is the Troyan Pass - "Beklemeto" - a winter resort with ski slopes, suitable for recreation in all seasons.
The Troyan region is also rich in cultural and historical monuments, Renaissance buildings and churches. It is also among the few places in Bulgaria where craftsmanship is still alive.
